My stories with spatial analysis and work automation
Tags: GIS, QGIS, VBA, analysis automation, GoogleSheets, GoogleApps

Are you GIS user? Do you work with spatial analysis? Maybe you're looking for a way to improve analytical process you are working with? At last, do you want simply read and show what interesting things you're able to do with using completely free and powerfull tools? If answer of one of above question is positive, fell free, enjoy and learn something usefull from my blog. Welcome :)

ABOUT

I am a graduate of Geoinformation at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. During my studies, in addition to Geographic Information Systems i was also interested in pure programming issues. After graduation i did two internships, the second of which ended in cooperation, which I continue to this day. In ma actual job i'm trying to use my skills in the field of store market research and improve analysis process through automation of collecting, processing and presenting results. I'm still looking for improve analysis process to make work and live better and more efficient.

GIS

  • GIS - Geographic Information Systems are broad and constantly evolving field, whose potential is much greater than currently used. Using GIS allows us to save our time, money and optimize our work. Nowadays it's used, among others, in lands and buindings registry, environmental monitoring, geodesy, market researches and much more. Real actual area of using GiS has practically no limits.

EXCEL - VBA / GOOGLESHEETS - GOOGLE APPS AUTOMATION AND PYTHON IN QGIS

  • Sometimes, when many things in spreadsheet are constantly repeated, it's worth to think about automating of work. Entry threshold for simply Excel user maybe is not low, but the use of automation will certainly pay off for routine operations. All above things we can do another way. For example in Python programming language, which provides a much larger range of possibilities than VBA. One of this is making advanced spatial analysis, for example by using QGIS infrastructure. Going forward, thanks to python, possible is even integration Excel or csv data direct with shp or geopackage.

SPATIAL ANALYSIS, FREE SOFTWARE AND DATA SOURCES

  • Spatial analysis can provide us many insights. Nowadays, thanks to big open data sources(especially OSM) which's volume is still raising and GIS tools(especially QGIS) which's functionalities are also still being improved, we often can use them for free. Using them can optimize many areas of our life. The idea of free software and free knowledge sources are wonderfull thing, which made GIS much easier, simpler and with bigger potential thanks to millions of users, which share their works effects and methods with another. I encourage you to do so too :)
